Description
PART OF INTRODUCTION:
The timeline for UH-60 Black Hawks as a part of the Army’s Aviation team began in 1978 with the aircraft boasting multiple functions without any necessary modifications.
Many variations to the UH-60 Black Hawk exist in the U.S. military and in the world’s aircraft inventory, but the most widely utilized UH-60 in the Army today is the “L” model.
The Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard also use derivatives of the UH-60, as do 15 other countries.
Sikorsky’s UH-60A triumphed over Boeing Vertol’s YUH-61A in 1976 during the U.S. Army Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System competition and flew into the Army’s ranks two years later.
Known as the premier tactical transport helicopter in the Army, the UH-60 assumed the roles of combat assault, combat resupply, battlefield command and control, electronic warfare and medical evacuation, which were previously UH-1 Iroquois tasks.
Each type of helicopter that serves the military is constantly changed and remodeled, and over the years the designator UH-60 has been transformed and rearranged to designate many forms of the Black Hawk.
